Fatal Upper East Side shooting death of Kathleen Leigh – Obituary
A tragic shooting occurred on a quiet Upper East Side street Friday morning, where retired Chicago probation officer Kathleen Leigh, 65, fatally shot her former daughter-in-law, Marisa Galloway, 45, before taking her own life.
The incident unfolded with a baby in a nearby car, according to police.
The confrontation was the climax of a contentious custody battle between Leigh and Galloway, revealed NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny.
The dispute had a long history of domestic conflicts leading up to this tragic event on East 88th Street, near Gracie Mansion.
Leigh shot Galloway twice after Galloway had placed a baby into a parked car around 9 a.m. before turning the gun on herself, falling to the sidewalk and dropping the firearm beside her.
Both women were found with gunshot wounds to the head, Kenny confirmed.
