Fatal Staten Island pedestrian accident death of Denise Owens – Obituary

A tragic incident took place on the evening of October 30, 2024, when a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle on Hylan Boulevard in New Dorp, Staten Island. Emergency responders were alerted just before 10:30 p.m. regarding the collision occurring at the intersection of Hylan Boulevard and New Dorp Lane.

Preliminary investigations by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad revealed that 44-year-old Denise Owens from New Dorp Beach was walking against the flow of traffic in the left lane of the Tottenville-bound Hylan Boulevard when she was hit by a 2012 Nissan Maxima. The Nissan had a green traffic light as it navigated through New Dorp Lane and collided with Owens, who was reportedly just outside of the crosswalk.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived on the scene quickly and transported Owens to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, where she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival. The driver of the Nissan, an 18-year-old male, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Law enforcement cordoned off Hylan Boulevard in the direction of Tottenville, utilizing police tape to secure the area for investigative purposes. A damaged Nissan with a shattered passenger-side windshield was visible within the taped-off section, illustrating the severity of the incident.

At this point, no charges have been filed against the driver, and the investigation into the details of the accident continues.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Denise Owens during this difficult period.
