A tragic drowning occurred at Millerton Lake on the evening of July 14, 2024, when 21-year-old Hashpreet Singh, who did not know how to swim and was not wearing a life jacket, jumped into the water.
State park rangers responded to the scene at Boat Ramp 3, where Singh was located about a minute later in 10 feet of water. Lifeguards performed CPR, and Singh briefly regained a pulse before being airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center. Despite efforts, Singh passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2024. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
