A man who was found deceased after allegedly making a racist gesture at a football match has been identified. Andrew Paul Hewitt, a Chester FC supporter, was found dead in his home in Flint, North Wales, on the morning of December 1, 2024. Hewitt had been involved in a weekend match between Chester FC and Warrington Town, during which he was filmed making a monkey gesture aimed at one of the Warrington players.

 

After police were alerted and identified him as the suspect, they visited his home after receiving a call expressing concern for his well-being. Sadly, they discovered his body at 1:35 am. Preliminary reports indicate his death was due to hanging, with the coroner describing it as “an apparent act of self-harm.”

 

Chester FC expressed their sorrow at the tragedy, stating they were “angry and dismayed” by the alleged racism during the game and had provided the police with the fan’s details. The club had previously condemned the behavior and shared their commitment to supporting both the authorities and the Football Association in the investigation.
