Fatal U.S. Route 33 crash death of Chloe Gross – Obituary.
A serious accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on November 2, along westbound U.S. Route 33 near State Route 540, resulting in critical injuries to both drivers involved. The Logan County Sheriff’s Office reports that 18-year-old Chloe Gross from Huntsville was airlifted to Grant Medical Center after being mechanically extracted from her 2023 white Honda Civic.
The other driver, 28-year-old Emily Olvera from North Lewisburg, is currently stable after being transported by Medflight helicopter to the same medical facility. Olvera was allegedly driving the wrong way in her 2019 black Honda CRV, heading eastbound in the westbound lanes, and has been charged with wrong-way driving.
First responders reported smelling alcohol on Olvera at the scene, where her vehicle was engulfed in flames upon arrival. Emergency personnel rescued her from the burning SUV, but she reportedly resisted medical treatment and declined a blood test.
Deputies were initially dispatched due to reports of a wrong-way driver, and just minutes later, they received alerts of a collision, with one vehicle on fire in the median. Gross was traveling in the left lane when her car was struck head-on.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with traffic in the eastbound lanes temporarily delayed and the westbound lanes closed for an extended period.
