Tyler Cochran dies in fatal Austin shooting

Fatal Austin shooting death of Tyler Cochran – Obituary

Austin police have identified Tyler Cochran, 30, as the victim of a fatal shooting that took place in North Austin early on November 1, 2024. Officers responded to a distress call regarding shots fired at Michelobos Sports Bar, located at 900 East Braker Lane, around 1:43 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Cochran along with another man, Clayton Taitague, 20, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Cochran was pronounced dead at the scene, while Taitague was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition as of November 4.

Investigations reveal that an altercation broke out between Cochran and Taitague, which escalated to violence. During the incident, Taitague reportedly retrieved a firearm and shot Cochran. A security guard present during the shooting witnessed the event and subsequently fired at Taitague, who was later apprehended by police.

Taitague is expected to face murder charges once he is discharged from the hospital. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to reach out to the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS or provide anonymous tips through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program.
