The North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) is investigating a tragic accident that occurred on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, in Duplin County. The crash claimed the lives of Master Chief Simba Wallace, a United States Navy officer, and his wife, Natalie Castro.
The incident happened at approximately 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ludie Brown Road and Willie Hatcher Road. Authorities reported that Wallace, driving a Jeep, failed to yield while making a right turn and collided with a tractor-trailer.
Both Wallace and Castro were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to ECU Health Duplin Hospital for medical treatment. Their current condition remains unknown.
The United States Navy issued a statement expressing their condolences, noting that Master Chief Wallace was a member of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 211. They offered sympathies to the families, friends, and colleagues of the victims during this challenging time.
NCSHP officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, and no charges have been filed at this time.
