Fatal east Birmingham shooting death of Jose Luis Reyes – Obituary
Jose Luis Reyes, a 36-year-old resident of Haleyville, was shot and killed early Sunday in east Birmingham. Authorities responded to the scene near the 1000 block of Huffman Road after receiving reports of a shooting around 12:30 a.m.
When officers arrived, Reyes was found unresponsive on the ground close to several businesses, according to Officer Truman Fitzgerald. He was transported by Birmingham medics to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:19 p.m.
Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, and no arrests have been reported at this time.
This marks Birmingham’s 141st homicide of the year, with 10 of those determined to be justifiable and excluded from criminal counts. Countywide, Jefferson County has recorded a total of 176 homicides this year.
