Fatal Lee County shooting death of Alphonso Neal – Obituary
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the identity of the suspect involved in a deadly shooting with deputies as 21-year-old Alphonso Neal. The incident took place while law enforcement was attempting to arrest Neal, who had been wanted in connection with a homicide on Heck Drive from November 24.
According to Sheriff Carmine Marceno, deputies confronted Neal near Suncoast Drive and Laurel Lane, where he allegedly pointed a weapon at them. In response, multiple deputies returned fire, fatally wounding Neal. Fortunately, none of the deputies were harmed during the exchange. The sheriff’s office had been attempting to take Neal into custody during a traffic stop when the shooting occurred.
Neal, a convicted felon with an extensive criminal record, had been facing numerous charges, including second-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and robbery. He had previously been involved in felony battery, vehicle theft, and evading arrest. Following the shooting, the deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave, as per department policy, while the investigation continues.
