The Toronto Police Service has officially identified four-month-old Azuri Bacchas as the latest victim in a tragic incident. Bacchas, who died after being found with severe injuries in a Toronto condo building, was reported missing by his father on November 20. Despite efforts to save him, Bacchas passed away in the hospital shortly after police arrived on the scene.
The baby’s mother, Karessa Edwards, aged 30, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with his death. Initially, Edwards faced charges for failing to provide the necessaries of life, but these were upgraded following further investigation.
Police were called to the building, located near Roselawn and Marlee avenues, just before 11:30 a.m. on the day Bacchas went missing. Upon arrival, officers found the infant suffering from critical injuries and began life-saving procedures. Bacchas was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Investigators have yet to release an official cause of death.
While the exact location where Bacchas was found remains unclear, police were seen blocking off a garbage chute on the eighth floor of the building, a site of interest in their ongoing investigation. Bacchas’ death has been marked as the 79th homicide of 2024 in Toronto.
