Mary Louise Bartine dies in fatal Bondurant car crash

Fatal Bondurant car crash death of Mary Louise Bartine – Obituary

Mary Louise Bartine, an 89-year-old resident of St. Anthony, lost her life following a tragic crash involving her SUV and a semi-truck hauling livestock. The collision occurred at the intersection of Northeast Hubbell Avenue and Northeast 112th Street near Bondurant on the morning of November 27.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the semi-truck was heading northbound, and Bartine’s SUV was traveling eastbound when the vehicles collided. Bartine was transported to the hospital in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash caused the semi-truck, which was carrying a trailer filled with pigs, to overturn. Emergency responders temporarily closed the roads while recovering the livestock and managing the accident site. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.

Mary Louise Bartine dedicated over 50 years of her life to nursing, primarily as a night supervisor at Marshalltown Hospital. After her retirement, she cared for her late husband, Richard, until his passing in 2013. A hospice volunteer and a devout Catholic, Bartine was a leader at Sacred Heart Church in St. Anthony and St. Joseph’s Church in State Center, recognized for her spirituality and service.

Honored as one of Iowa’s top 100 nurses in 2008 and awarded the Catholic Diocese of Dubuque’s “Our Lady of Good Counsel Award” in 2019, Bartine was remembered as a servant leader who prioritized others and embodied love and kindness.
