Fatal Dakota County pedestrian death of Ricky Delbert Edstrom – Obituary
A 69-year-old man was struck and killed by a passing driver while trying to remove the carcass of a deer he had just hit on a rural road in Dakota County.
Ricky Delbert Edstrom, from Hastings, was driving west on County Road 46 near General Sieben Drive in Marshan Township when he struck the deer around 6:35 a.m. on Wednesday. According to the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, Edstrom then stopped to move the deer off the road.
While he was on the roadway, a second driver heading east struck him. A motorist who had stopped to assist witnessed the incident.
Deputies quickly arrived on the scene and attempted lifesaving efforts, but Edstrom was later pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death was determined to be multiple blunt force injuries from the collision.
The driver who hit Edstrom was not injured and has been fully cooperative with the investigation, according to Sheriff Joe Leko.
