Rudy Ratliff dies in fatal New Orleans shooting
Fatal New Orleans shooting death of Rudy Ratliff – Obituary
A New Orleans family is mourning the tragic death of 3-year-old Rudy Ratliff, who was fatally shot in an incident under investigation by the New Orleans Police Department.
On Saturday night, Rudy was brought to University Medical Center with a gunshot wound around 11 p.m. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries, police confirmed. The shooting took place in the 2200 block of Willow Street in Central City.
Detectives specializing in child abuse are currently working to determine the circumstances that led to this heartbreaking event. According to a family friend, Michael Willis, it appears the child might have gained access to a firearm.
“We don’t want to jump to conclusions, but it seems the child somehow got hold of the gun,” Willis shared. He emphasized the importance of addressing gun safety to prevent similar tragedies.
“How do we ensure our children are protected and keep firearms away from them? That’s the conversation we need to have as a community,” he stated.
Rudy’s cousin, Savana Butler, described him as a vibrant and energetic child who brought joy to everyone he met. “He was like a great ball of fire, always full of life,” she said.
The family expressed their grief but also spoke of the profound impact Rudy had on their lives, despite his short time with them. “He’s our angel now, watching over us. His life was brief but meaningful,” Butler added.
The community is encouraged to assist investigators by contacting NOPD or Crimestoppers with any relevant information about the incident.
