Fatal Midland County semi-truck crash death of Manuel de Jesus Sanchez Velasco – Obituary
The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified Manuel de Jesus Sanchez Velasco, 45, of Fort Bend, as the individual who died in a collision south of Interstate 20 on Sunday night, December 1, 2024.
The crash occurred at approximately 8:20 p.m. when a Freightliner semi-truck towing a belly-dump trailer was traveling north on State Highway 349. Velasco, driving a Chevrolet Sonic westbound on Farm-to-Market Road 1213/East County Road 160, reportedly failed to stop at a posted stop sign, leading to the collision.
Velasco was pronounced dead at the scene, while the semi-truck driver, Jorge Luis Marquez, 40, of Horizon City, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital.
The Midland Fire Department assisted at the scene of the crash, which occurred about five miles south of Interstate 20. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
