Malayshia Conley, 19, tragically lost her life in a house fire on Latin Drive in Ossun on December 2, 2024. The fire, which occurred around 8 a.m., led to a dramatic rescue effort by local firefighters from several departments, including Scott, Duson, Carencro, and Lafayette. Conley was found inside the home after firefighters responded to the blaze, which had trapped several occupants. Despite efforts to extinguish the fire and provide aid, Conley could not be saved.
Her mother, 44, and her 21-year-old brother suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Two younger siblings were at school at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and authorities have expressed their condolences to the grieving family.
