Bernardita Garcia dies in fatal hit-and-run in Teaneck, New Jersey

Authorities have identified Bernardita Garcia, 70, of Englewood, New Jersey, as the victim in a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on November 21, 2024, in Teaneck. The Teaneck Police Department responded to reports of a pedestrian lying in the roadway at approximately 6:59 p.m. Upon arrival, they determined that Garcia had been struck by a vehicle, which fled the scene. She was transported to Holy Name Hospital, where she later passed away.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation, which revealed that a white Honda Accord had struck Garcia while she was attempting to cross Cedar Lane near the intersection with Lincoln Place. On December 7, 2024, 35-year-old Jevon M. Bryant of Teaneck was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including leaving the scene of the accident resulting in death, endangering an injured victim, and obstruction of justice. He is currently being held in Bergen County Jail pending his court appearance.
