Brian Richard Daems, 57, of Nazareth, Pennsylvania, has been identified as the victim of a deadly glider crash that took place last Friday afternoon on State Road 60 in Indian River County. The crash occurred around 12:40 p.m. in the 10000 block of State Road 60, near New Hibiscus Airpark Airport.
According to preliminary findings from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the crash remains unexplained, with the FAA classifying the incident as an accident. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into the crash involving the experimental Schleicher ASW24 glider, which was being flown as a personal activity.
Indian River County Sheriff’s deputies confirmed that the single-seater glider went down in a grassy median along the road. Authorities, including the FAA and NTSB, have responded to the scene. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
