Lincoln County Coroner Blake Wallace has identified 17-year-old Cordae Peyton of Brookhaven as the victim in a shooting incident that occurred on Sunday afternoon. Peyton’s family has been notified, and a GoFundMe campaign has been created to assist with funeral expenses, aiming to raise $5,000.
According to Brookhaven Police Chief Kenny Collins, the shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. at Speedy Wash on Industrial Park Road. Officers discovered that a vehicle had been burglarized, and the vehicle owner fatally shot Peyton, who was suspected of being involved in the burglary.
