On August 5, 2024, Dyamund “DJ” Shields, the owner of a popular food truck, was tragically killed in a shooting in Kansas City. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. at East 70th Street and Prospect Avenue, where police discovered six people with gunshot wounds. Shields, 31, who operated the Chicken and Mac & Cheese food truck, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses showed a chaotic exchange of gunfire involving several individuals, including 28-year-old Derrion Turner, who has since been charged in connection with the shooting. Turner faces charges of accessory to second-degree murder and armed criminal action. Investigators confirmed that Turner, who was wearing a GPS ankle monitor at the time, was in the area when the shooting occurred.
