Christine Blount, 38, of Iowa City, was fatally shot early Monday morning near the 600 block of South Dodge Street, close to Oak Grove Park. The shooting occurred around 2:38 a.m., and officers arrived to find Blount critically injured. She was transported to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The Iowa City Police Department confirmed that the incident appears isolated but has not provided further details. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday afternoon, and the cause and manner of death remain under investigation.
Blount, affectionately known as “Gucci” by friends and family, was remembered as a beloved member of the Iowa City community. Royceann Porter, a friend and former Johnson County Supervisor, shared a heartfelt tribute, urging authorities to bring justice for Christine and her loved ones.
Porter recounted helping Blount settle into her first apartment in Iowa City after moving from Chicago with her six children. Over the years, Blount worked at Shelter House and was admired for her efforts to improve her life. Porter expressed pride in Blount’s accomplishments and deep sorrow over her tragic death.
The Iowa City Police Department is asking residents with security cameras in the area to review their footage and provide any relevant information. Those with details about the case are encouraged to contact the department or Iowa City Area Crime Stoppers. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
