Joel Hammack, 46, of Crossville, Tennessee, was involved in a crash on Saturday, December 28, 2024, that resulted in the death of a second-grader in Adair County, Kentucky. The incident occurred on the KY 55 Bypass near Pelham Branch Road when Hammack rear-ended the Kia Sorento in which the child was riding. The crash caused the vehicle to overturn, and the young boy was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

A 66-year-old woman and another juvenile were injured and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Hammack, who was driving under the influence of alcohol, faces charges of vehicular homicide, DUI, and multiple counts of assault. A judge has denied his bond reduction, which remains set at $1 million.

This crash marks Hammack’s fourth DUI offense, raising awareness about the dangers of impaired driving, especially during the holiday season.
