On the east side of Columbus, a domestic dispute escalated into a shooting that claimed the life of 29-year-old Gary Tyler Lyons. Officers arrived at the scene on the 1500 block of Baxter Drive at approximately 6:55 p.m., following a distress call reporting an altercation.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered Gary Tyler Lyons with a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at 8:06 p.m.
In the aftermath of the incident, Columbus police detained Lyons’ parents, who are cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Officials have suggested that the shooting might have been a case of self-defense, and the matter will be reviewed by the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office to determine whether a grand jury is warranted.
