Shirley Morris tragically lost her life following a vehicle collision on Appling-Harlem Road in Harlem, Georgia, in July 2022. The crash, caused by Christina Richardson’s tractor-trailer, occurred on June 21. Morris, a passenger in a Chevrolet pickup truck, sustained life-threatening injuries in the collision and succumbed to them on July 15.
Richardson, operating a 2020 Kenworth truck, struck a Nissan Rogue, which then collided with the Chevrolet, causing it to overturn. Authorities identified Richardson’s actions, including following too closely, as the primary cause of the crash. She was subsequently charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of second-degree homicide and following too closely.
On November 18, 2024, Richardson pleaded guilty to all charges. Respecting the wishes of both families, the judge imposed no jail time but sentenced her to three years of probation and a $1,000 fine, with the stipulation that she no longer operates a truck.
The tragic incident has deeply affected the community and highlights the devastating consequences of negligent driving.
