A 33-year-old U.S. Postal Service worker, Irvin Hernandez of Santa Rosa, tragically lost his life after being struck by a vehicle on Monday evening. The crash occurred around 5:05 p.m. at the intersection of Northpoint Parkway and Corrigan Street, involving a postal vehicle and a GMC Denali SUV. Authorities reported that the SUV ended up in a front yard on Corrigan Street, while the postal vehicle came to rest in the middle of Northpoint Parkway.
Multiple 911 calls alerted Santa Rosa Police to a male victim lying in the roadway, identified as the driver of the postal vehicle. Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV, who was conscious, appeared to be suffering from a medical emergency and was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Investigators determined that the driver of the SUV had been driving erratically before losing control due to the medical emergency, striking Hernandez as he was standing outside the postal vehicle, sorting mail. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
