Ramon Rivera, a 51-year-old man, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder after allegedly carrying out a series of random stabbings across Manhattan on November 18, 2024. Rivera was apprehended after being found with blood on his clothes and two kitchen knives.
The violent spree unfolded between 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Monday. The first victim, 36-year-old construction worker Angel Lata Landi, was attacked near his work site on West 19th Street. He died shortly after the assault. Approximately two hours later, a 68-year-old fisherman was fatally stabbed while fishing near East 30th Street.
The final attack took place near the United Nations headquarters on East 42nd Street, where 36-year-old Wilma Augustin was fatally stabbed. Rivera was soon captured after a cab driver witnessed the crime and alerted authorities. Police are still investigating the motive behind the killings, with officials stating that Rivera had no prior interaction with the victims.
Mayor Eric Adams and police chief Joseph Kenny expressed their concerns over the unprovoked nature of the attacks, which have raised alarms about public safety in the city. Rivera, who reportedly has a history of criminal activity, is being held for arraignment.
